Adult Eye Care

Annual or bi-annual eye exams are recommended for all individuals, even if you currently do not wear glasses.

Comprehensive Eye Care that goes above and beyond.

Adults that currently wear eyeglasses or contact lenses should have annual eye exams. Annual or bi-annual eye exams are recommended for all individuals, even if you currently do not wear glasses. This is because many eye diseases do not present with symptoms when they first start forming. Without regular eye exams, the first sign something is wrong may be when you notice a change to your vision!

The Important of Regular Eye Examinations

Regular eye examinations play an important role in the early detection of eye diseases. If you are diabetic or have a family history of age-related macular degeneration (MD), glaucoma or cataracts you may be at a higher risk for developing these conditions.

Several key signs of eye strain include sore or tired eyes, itching and burning sensations in the eyes, sensitivity to light, dry or watery eyes, focusing difficulties, headaches, back and neck aches.

Modern era lifestyles demand more from our vision than ever before. Given our highly technological society, many adults constantly use their near vision at work and at home. Intensive school and job related tasks can create great visual stress.

The Importance of Eye Tests for Seniors

We maintain that a regular eye testing is vital for seniors as it’s not always obvious when a condition has developed or is about to.

An eye test can detect the early signs of eye conditions before the symptoms occur, many of which can be treated. An Eye Opener Optometrist will examine your eyes for vision, eye disorders and other health problems involving the eyes.

An eye test will also show if you need to get glasses for the first time or if you need to change your current glasses.

Common Eye Conditions that Seniors encounter

  • Vision problems: Near-sightedness (unable to see far), far-sightedness (unable to see close objects), astigmatism and difficulty reading at a normal distance.
  • Cataracts: The lens of the eye becomes cloudy.
  • Glaucoma: Increased fluid pressure in the eye.
  • Macular degeneration: Loss of vision, or blindness (often age-related). Use the AMSLER Grid test (PDF) to check if you have any symptoms.
  • Stye: A sore or red lump near the edge of an eyelid, caused by an infection at the base of an eyelash (in the follicle).
